Winter to Spring Transitional Wardrobe

Updated: Apr 11

What I am wearing during the weird transition between winter and spring.

It feels wrong to consider the weather during February, springy. But, it’s hard not to---especially when I wake up to 6-degree weather on a random Sunday. I will give credit where credit is due; it does cure my frozen winter mind within seconds. But I slightly panic. My thick wool sweaters, puffer jackets and scarves are suddenly not much help.

Over the last couple of weeks, I have crafted a go-to wardrobe for all the springy days during these winter months.

Layers! Layers? Layers.

It’s obnoxious to dress for 10-degree weather, then the weather does a 360, and you’re suddenly in the middle of a winter storm.

That’s a little dramatic, but I have (kinda) learned to dress for anything and everything.

—Fleece Stockings

I love skirts and dresses, so every winter I get so devastated to see them slowly collect dust in my closet. I luckily invested in a pair of fleeced stockings, and they have genuinely changed my life. They are so much warmer than you would expect, extremely comfortable, and look like regular stockings. Even on warmer days, they are the perfect coverup. I have never felt too warm with them, but regular stockings are obviously the alternative!

—Leather jackets

If I could wear leather jackets every single day, I would. I have all from black, brown, red, and forest green jackets, and I am not planning to stop there. They are so versatile; dress them up or down. They remain timeless----a piece that will make its mark in your wardrobe for a long, long time. My favourite jackets to wear aren’t mine (my boyfriend knows), but I always have luck thrifting some of my own! Please, if there is something you need to solely thrift---it is leather jackets.

Three more reasons:

1. There is an 8 out of 10 chance that a thrifted leather jacket will be made of genuine leather and will last so much longer than one from H&M for triple the price.

2. I have thrifted leather jackets ranging from literally $5 to $20, yet you will not find one in fast fashion stores for less than $60.

3. Thrift stores are always overflowing with jackets.

Bottoms (are) up!

—Denim skirts

For some reason, I always stick to black cotton mini skirts, but I have recently been obsessed with denim mini skirts. I have a couple of different washes that I switch around with, and some are more mini than others, but they are always my favourite bottoms. Denim skirts have recently exploded in mainstream fashion so getting your hands on a pair will not be difficult; Garage Clothing, H&M and Aritzia. You may even have luck in a thrift&flip!

—Trousers

I always associate trousers with a traditional office-business-formal look, but I have gotten comfortable styling them for every occasion. Trousers have become one of my favourite bottoms, I wear them too often---school, work, going out for coffee. You get the idea. Dynamite Clothing and Aritzia both have some of the best options right now, and you do not have to stick to generic black pairs. There are more colours to choose from that have been slowly rolling into stores this month. I have worn them with corset tops, sweaters, tank tops, and long and short sleeves---their versatility goes unnoticed.

Tops.

—Vests

Some of my favourite layering pieces are vests. I have a collection of short and long vests, neutral to funky vests. They are the perfect statement piece to elevate an outfit. I have found that most fast fashion clothing stores have abandoned sweater vests at the beginning of last year. However, if you are like me and you love grandpa vests, you will, once again, have luck at thrift stores (TIP: if you find a sweater you love but would love it even more as a vest, cut the sleeves off).

Thank you for reading,

& it’s been a while, I know. But I will be back soon:)
